Class Description:

This course immerses beginner and advanced artists in a drawing practice in which they will be observing and interpreting the mark-making of select master works.

This session emphasizes value studies of the figure and portrait via the work of Edmonia Lewis, Gwen John, and Johannes Vermeer. Students will gain an increased understanding of ways to utilize the timeless practice of master copying to workshop their observational drawing skills and access perspectives through which to orient themselves toward an in-depth understanding of figure drawing concepts.
