Join Konstantin Rudnichenko for a close look at how you can combine renaissance and modern techniques to turn a simple pose into a dynamic portrait composition. Developing a striking portrait depends on understanding contrast and form - masses of light and shadow that control the viewer’s eye. He’ll show you how to approach a painting the way a viewer does. Artists need to catch attention from a distance, to give people a reason to come closer. The key is structural thinking. Using a viewfinder, mirrors, red filters, art history, and a whole lot of squinting, Konstantin will help you understand how to pose a model to create the feeling of motion even in a still pose. He’ll demonstrate how you construct a visual hierarchy and draw a high contrast block-in. From there, he will develop that into a grisailles underpainting, laying the foundation for a final portrait.

Konstantin Rudnichenko is a Ukrainian artist based in NYC. He studied at the Art Students League of New York with various teachers including: Leonid Gervits, Robin Smith and Harvey Dinnerstein. His paintings are represented in numerous public, private and corporate collections. Through his works he depicts the very essence of the subject capturing exquisite likeness and luminosity. Konstantin is deeply influenced by the old master's works serving as both a foundation and source of inspiration for the artist's distinctive style. He remains deeply committed to his craft, continually refining his technique while exploring new avenues of artistic expression.
