Course overview

Discover how to paint vivid, illusionistic landscapes that guide the viewer’s eye through space. In this course, Elody Gyekis walks you through the process of composing from reference and imagination, building an underpainting, and mixing color to express light, depth, and mood. You'll learn how to simplify foreground detail, push atmospheric perspective, and apply paint with intention—balancing realism and expression. Whether you're new to landscape painting or looking to strengthen your technical voice, this course gives you the tools to create thoughtful, emotionally resonant scenes that go far beyond copying a photo.

  • Build dynamic, layered compositions

  • Create depth using underpainting techniques

  • Master atmospheric color relationships

  • Balance realism with expressive brushwork

  • Transform flat references into drama

  • Paint confidently from imagination and life
