Class Description:

Do you yearn to make art that transports the viewer into your invented reality?

What is your subject and how does it react to its environment? In this six-week class students will work one-on-one with the instructor to develop a strategy for constructing captivating spaces that engage the viewer. Students will explore the tools used to build their own worlds and establish a content-driven, art-making process by gathering inspiration from contemporary and classical art, landscapes, interiors, and the figure. Lessons will be geared to harnessing formal elements such as value, perspective, and temperature as the key to creating psychological experiences and commanding spaces. Students are asked to use their own personal experience to access the tools that will help them unlock creative potential. Expect to dive deep into reference possibilities and explore photographs, digital software, film, drawing, painting from life, and building maquettes. Find what you want to say and how to gather the materials that will best help you communicate your vision. Students are encouraged to use whatever medium they are most comfortable with to explore new techniques.
