Class Description:

This human anatomy overview is specifically designed for the artist that wants to reach the next level of expertise and refinement when drawing the figure accurately.

This course is of interest to the artist desiring an essential overview of the human anatomy or seeking a starting point into the study of the human anatomy. Anatomical and structural study are directly linked to the practice of figure drawing. Students learn proportion, skeletal structure, landmarks of the body, superficial anatomy, and external forms. Applying the acquired anatomical knowledge toward the practice of figure drawing and the exploration of fundamental drawing techniques students create full anatomical charts from multiple views. Students explore fundamental drawing techniques—graphite on paper, charcoal and chalk on toned paper, and the trois crayons technique.

Meet Your Instructor

Roberto Osti

Instructor

Roberto Osti moved to the United States from his native Bologna, Italy in 1992 where he received his Diploma in Art at the State Institute of Art, and his Degree in Anatomical/Surgical Drawing, with honors, at the University of Bologna. In 2007 he received his Masters of Fine Art at the New York Academy of Art where he has also been teaching since 2010. Roberto Osti is the author of the books “Basic Human Anatomy” and “Dynamic Human Anatomy”, both published by The Monacelli Press-Phaidon, and the video “Human Anatomy for the Artist” with Craftsy. His artworks have been exhibited, among other venues, at The Drawing Center NYC), DFN Projects (NYC) Garvey Symon (NYC) Flowers Gallery (NYC), Sloan Fine Art (NYC), Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PA), Gallery of Modern Art in Bologna (Italy), and Museo Palazzo Pogg in Bologna (Italy).
