New York Academy of Art

Students will have exclusive access to study rooms at renowned institutions such as the Met, MoMA, and the Morgan Library, providing a behind-the-scenes experience. We will also immerse ourselves in the museums' galleries, including the newly renovated Met Galleries for European Paintings from 1300 to 1800. This special opportunity allows us to study original artworks in person, fostering a personal and unique connection with the pieces. Our journey through art history will cover a timeline from Prehistory, Eastern art to the Renaissance and post-modern ideas. Using just a sketchbook and pencil, we will engage in discussions about historical, aesthetic, and philosophical concepts, with drawings serving as tools to enhance our understanding of each art movement. It’s important to note that this is not a drawing class; no advanced drawing skills are required. Ultimately, it’s not about copying masterpieces but about understanding the artist’s process through drawing. We will embrace imperfection in our creations as a vital part of the learning process. This workshop will feature engaging lectures, demonstrations, and insights into what drawings can reveal about art and how to interpret various artworks.
