Class Description:

A unique course that explores art history through the rich collections of NYC museums.

Students will gain exclusive access to study rooms at institutions such as The Met, MoMA, the Whitney, and the Morgan Library, offering a rare behind-the-scenes perspective. We’ll also spend time in the galleries—particularly the newly renovated European Paintings wing at The Met—examining original works up close to foster a direct and personal connection with the art. Our journey will span Eastern and Western art traditions, moving from Byzantine and Renaissance periods through Romanticism and into postmodernism. Using only a sketchbook and pencil, students will explore historical, aesthetic, and philosophical ideas, with drawing used as a tool for observation and reflection. This is not a drawing class, and no advanced drawing skills are required. The focus is not on copying masterpieces, but on deepening understanding of the artist’s process and documenting the experience in a visual journal. The course includes lectures, demonstrations, and conversations about what drawings can reveal about the nature of art and how we interpret it. It’s a rich blend of art appreciation, history, and thoughtful sketching. Due to institutional policies and required authorizations, the detailed class schedule will be released one week before the start of classes. This ensures all logistics and permissions are in place for the best learning experience. Thank you for your patience—we look forward to sharing the exciting itinerary soon. Stay tuned for updates! *NOTE: Museum admission fees are not included in tuition.
