Class Description:

Explore the essential elements of portraiture, including design and composition, likeness and proportion, value relationships, volume and structure, and of course, color.

The focus of this workshop will be on providing timeless tools, methods, and techniques that form the foundation of drawing and painting the portrait. We will begin by reviewing materials, tools, and setup, then move into different approaches to oil painting and how artists throughout history have tackled the portrait. Each student will receive individual guidance tailored to their experience level, interests, and personal goals. The instructor will provide live demonstrations throughout the course, and students will work on structured assignments designed to strengthen their skills. Step by step, participants will be guided through every stage of creating a portrait in oil—from the first marks on the canvas to a fully complete painting.

Konstantin Rudnichenko

Instructor

Konstantin Rudnichenko is a Ukrainian artist based in NYC. He studied at the Art Students League of New York with various teachers including: Leonid Gervits, Robin Smith and Harvey Dinnerstein. His paintings are represented in numerous public, private and corporate collections. Through his works he depicts the very essence of the subject capturing exquisite likeness and luminosity. Konstantin is deeply influenced by the old master's works serving as both a foundation and source of inspiration for the artist's distinctive style. He remains deeply committed to his craft, continually refining his technique while exploring new avenues of artistic expression.
