Class Description:

Discover classical figure drawing strategies through contemporary methods and materials.

Working from the live model, students will engage with poses ranging from quick 30-second gestures to sustained studies lasting up to six hours. Emphasis will be placed on developing a clear understanding of gesture, proportion, anatomical structure, and the effects of light on the human form. Recommended contemporary drawing materials will be used to explore how limitation, economy, and material choice can sharpen perception and decision making. A sequence of guided exercises, lectures, and demonstrations will help students build confidence in translating what they see into coherent, expressive drawings. Ultimately, students will develop both the technical foundation and conceptual framework necessary to accurately represent the human figure, while gaining tools that can be applied across mediums and genres.
