Class Description:

Learn to make sophisticated prints with linocut, a variant of woodcut printmaking.

By carving, inking, and impressing the linoleum block on paper you will explore the world of printmaking and create beautiful printed editions. You will learn image preparation, carving techniques, printing methods, and editioning, and will explore the long history of relief printmaking from classic to contemporary.

Meet Your Instructor

Aliene de Souza Howell

Instructor

Aliene de Souza Howell is a New York City based artist who was born and raised in Nashville, TN. Howell received her BFA from Guilford College and her MFA from the New York Academy of Art. She worked as muralist and educator with the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program which significantly impacted her work. She has completed a post-graduate fellowship, was critiqued by Steve Martin, exhibited in New York City and internationally. She completed residencies in Germany and Ireland. Howell is in many esteemed collections including Naomi Watts and Leiv Schreiber, Francie Bishop Good and Howard Tullman.
