Class Description:

Paint using a variety of strategies derived from current and historical practices to capture the likenesses of live models.

Whether you're a beginner or a more experienced painter, this course provides a supportive environment to develop new skills and refine your techniques. There will be lectures, demos, exercises, and one-on-one guidance. While your understanding of painting the figure goes up, so will your confidence levels with the watercolor, and vice versa. Watercolor painting is a medium that seems to allow only a few corrections, but it is actually quite versatile and easily accessible. Once basic watercolor techniques are understood, they can propel your work and artistic style forward. Learn from the masters—works by renowned artists such as John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn and Rhoda Holmes Nicholls will be analyzed to uncover the secrets behind their life-like portrait and figure paintings. You will develop an understanding of how these artists use loose rendering, embrace imperfections, and incorporate subtle nuances that give their paintings life and character.
