Class Description:

This class unites drawing and color value structure with a conceptual focus on portraiture through paint application and the use of digitally altered images.

It will be driven by two processes for creating the human form, the use of an under-drawing with graphite and a wipe-out underpainting. In class we will complete two paintings using these two different techniques. Each week will focus on a new topic relevant to creating artistic portraits with integrity. These subjects will include hard and soft light, color tiling, shapes and edges, facial features, backgrounds, and hair. Students are welcome to work in any medium they are comfortable with; however, oil paint is preferred.
