Class Description:

Designed to provide a solid foundation for working in the digital medium using the software Zbrush.

Utilizing the timeless skills and strategies of classical sculpture, participants will focus on constructing a figure, delving into the canons of proportion that ensure a successful sculpture every time. We will explore how to manipulate references to create aesthetically pleasing and harmonious sculptures. By the end of the workshop, attendees will have a better understanding of how to construct a proportioned sculpture autonomously, whether in the physical world or the digital realm.

Meet Your Instructor

Daniel Castro Gamelas

Instructor

Daniel Gamelas is a sculptor and drawing teacher based in Porto, Portugal. He studied Sculpture at the University of Porto's Faculty of Fine Arts and holds an MFA from the New York Academy of Art, where he was honored with “The Complete Sculptor Award” for Excellence in Sculpture. His sculptures and drawings delve into the complexities of human relationships and idiosyncrasies within the cultural context of the pre-Roman Iberian Peninsula. Gamelas has exhibited his work in numerous solo and group shows across Portugal, Spain, and New York. Notable projects include “Origins,” “Domains,” “Matriarchal Ceremonies for the Worship of the Most Ancient Deities of Cabeço das Fráguas: Trebopala, Laebo, Trebaruna,” and “Of the Iron Age.” He is also the founding member of the Oporto Atelier of Realist Art (AARP), a school dedicated to upholding the academic tradition of figurative representation.
