Class Description:

An even more in-depth study of drawing from the Old Masters.

This observational drawing course teaches perception and technique by examining the insights of historical master artists through their mark-making; it alternates with its session I counterpart every six weeks. Though still rooted in classical figure drawing, session II expands on more complex compositions such as multi-figure compositions, more anatomically, tonally, or complex perspectival figures, the figure in nature and scenes including architecture and animals. Students are guided in their own selection of a masterwork to copy from as a longer project that is ongoing in conjunction with shorter drawing studies relevant to new weekly drawing concepts that range from broadly relevant to multi-faceted compositions (i.e., linear and atmospheric perspective) to more niche details such as the bone structure of fingers, drawing hair or the texture and movement of water.
