Class Description:

This oil painting course is designed to teach you foundational skills in capturing the human form.

Students explore the properties of light as they relate to painting the figure. We will cover concepts like proportion, value, and composition, as well as the structure of light/shadows and identifying the temperature of your light source. Over six weeks we will complete two figure paintings using photographic references of models made specifically for this course. By engaging in hands-on practice, observing demonstrations, and listening to lectures, students will learn to create oil paintings with convincing depth. Whether you are a beginner or have some experience, this structured course offers a platform to develop your artistic skills and personal voice.
