Class Description:

This 4-day online workshop which will take place over the course of two weekends introduces essential drawing and watercolor skills improving the student's ability to see and recreate the human head with watercolor techniques.

Through exercises on short, intermediate, and long poses from life. Students will learn lessons about drawing the head from head casts, pictures, self-portraits, and live models. This foundation will bring solidity and structure to the application of watercolor, slowly revealing the complexities of the portrait form.
As a medium that allows only a few corrections, the basis of watercolor must be understood. Students will learn to connect shapes rather than draw separate objects, achieve lifelike flesh tones and hair color, and avoid overworking. The key is to learn how to cause accidents without losing control, allowing the medium to express itself and create spontaneous and alive images. This "spontaneous" method of applying watercolor paint gives life to the paintings of artists like John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer, to list just a few. Daily lectures, demonstrations, exercises, and one-on-one guidance to find each student's style. Students will experience great fun while painting each other's portraits!
The goal is to gain trust and obtain definitive results in the watercolor technique.
This workshop will give students the unique opportunity to look through Marcelo's eyes while he demonstrates, lectures, and answers questions in real time from his studio. Marcelo will have one camera on his painting and palette (right on his hands). Students will get closer than ever to Marcelo's process. Students will get a video recording of Marcelo's demonstrations. Demonstrations will be available two weeks after the workshop ends.
