Designed for artists of all levels, this class will take you step-by-step through the process of creating vibrant, lifelike portraits in watercolor, from drawing and composition to color mixing, layering, and final details. Each week combines lecture, demonstrations, and individual feedback to help you build confidence and technical skill. We’ll begin with drawing fundamentals and explore how to create strong value structure using a limited palette before moving into full-palette portraits. Along the way, you’ll learn how to control watercolor’s unique transparency while embracing its spontaneity. Working from photographs, students will complete multiple portraits during the course, learning how to capture mood, light, and personality while creating work that reflects their own style and growth. Expect a supportive, critique-based environment where experimentation and individuality are encouraged.
