Designed for beginner and intermediate level watercolor artists, this class will take you step-by-step through the process of creating vibrant, lifelike portraits in watercolor — from drawing and composition to color mixing, layering, and final details. Each week combines exercises, demonstrations, and individual feedback to help you build confidence and technical knowledge. We’ll begin with portrait drawing fundamentals before exploring how to create compelling paintings using a limited color palette. Along the way, you’ll learn how to both control and embrace watercolor’s spontaneity, getting to know the medium through carefully designed warm up exercises and the execution of painting. Working from photographs, students will create multiple portraits during the course, learning how to capture mood, light, and personality while creating work that reflects their own style and growth. Expect a supportive, demo/critique-based environment where you will gain foundational watercolor portrait painting skills.
