Class Description:

Learn to sculpt from direct observation of the model using gestural forms.

With an emphasis on finding the gesture and organizing the large volumes of the figure, this course will include three distinct poses, lasting two sessions each. The underpinning of successful sculpture is creating relationships of parts to create a cohesive whole. Using short term poses, students will learn to consolidate visual information and create dynamic compositions. We will work on a small scale, prioritizing the proportions and plane changes over observing surface details. At the conclusion of the course, students who wish to fire their work will allow their work to dry for a couple of weeks. The pieces can be picked up after being fired.
