Join us to discover traditional skills and contemporary practice
This class will explore different ways in which graphite may be applied and manipulated on paper (pencils, paint brushes, stumps, erasers, etc.) and how these varying strategies may be deployed in service of a full and lifelike drawing.
Learn strategies to better navigate materiality, gesture, proportion, and light and shadow by working from both the Academy's amazing plaster cast collection and the live nude figure model.
In this class students will learn my specific process for approaching portrait painting. We will cover how to draw faces, how to do an underpainting, rendering a painting area by area, and how to optimally manipulate oil paint.
