Class Description:

An in-depth exploration of portrait sculpting and painting from observation, focusing on ceramic hand-building techniques.

Students will engage in critical analysis of form and spatial relationships as they develop their work. The course will begin with short poses and gesture studies in clay, followed by an extended pose project that will continue for the remainder of the session. Students are encouraged to refine their work through the firing process in the kiln at the conclusion of the course.

Instructor

Korbyn Carleton is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores our disconnect from nature and how it affects us psychologically and physically. She first developed a passion for sculpture as a special effects makeup artist, fabricating custom prosthetics for film and TV. This led her to pursue an education in figurative art. She received her MFA at the top of her class from The New York Academy of Art with a concentration in Sculpture and completion of the Anatomy Track.
