Class Description:

A class aimed for the intermediate to advanced student, this class will build upon foundational oil painting skills to teach students how to combine multiple references to create a unique work.

Working from floral still lives and live models, you’ll learn to combine observational painting, photo reference, and imagination to create a final work of the figure in nature. In the first half of the course, students will focus on composition, color theory, and expressive mark making using floral bouquets , learning to see different elements of greenery and breaking down the construction of emotive still lives. In the second half of the course, we will have a 3 week pose with a figure model and discuss how to use a classroom setup and photo references to place them in an imaginative landscape. While this course involves advanced techinques, students of all levels are welcome.
