Class Description:

Explore classical oil painting techniques in portraiture in this comprehensive course.

Emphasis in this course will be placed on tonal relationships, focusing on the effective use of color to enhance both volume and the overall content of each portrait. Students will learn to appreciate the rhythmic interplay of opacity and transparency, as well as edge variation. These elements will assist in moving forms in and out of space, employing a combination of formal elements to create compelling portraits. Casey Krawczyk

Instructor

Casey Krawczyk (b. 1978) is earned her B.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Superior and her M.F.A. from the New York Academy of Art (NYAA). Currently residing in Upstate New York, Casey was significantly influenced by her upbringing in rural Minnesota and the prominent Finnish and Indigenous cultures of the region, which encouraged a deep connection to nature. Her work presents a harmonious blend of meticulous detail and a profound connection with nature, reflecting her diverse background and artistic education. Casey has several years of teaching experience; she was a professor at Western State Colorado for 8 years before returning to the northeast to raise her family, focus on painting, and continue to share her love of teaching through workshops. Her work can be seen at Robert Lange Studios in Charleston, SC, Peter Jung Fine Arts in Hudson, NY and Keating Fine Art in Basalt, CO.
