Class Description:

Sharpen your skills and bring your figure drawings to life in this dynamic 6-week online course!

Figure Drawing Fundamentals breaks down and demystifies the process of figure drawing, from block-in to full-value rendering. Working with a live model, we will discuss ways to start a drawing, measuring and angles, basic anatomical constructs, hatching, and creating the feeling of light on form. Long poses offer the time for sustained study of the human body and will allow you develop the value scale of your drawings. You will receive personalized feedback each week on your class drawings, as well as on the optional homework assignments, which can help accelerate your progress in the class. Whether you are interested in figure drawing but don't know where to start, or you are a seasoned artist who wants to hone your technique, this class will sharpen your observational skills and give you practical tools to improve your drawings.

Meet Your Instructor

Lydia Zoells

Instructor

Lydia Zoells (she/her) is an artist and educator based in Madison, Wisconsin. She currently teaches at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, as well as in her community in Madison. Born in Switzerland and raised in the Chicago area, she received her B.A. in English literature at Washington University in St. Louis and her M.F.A. in painting from the New York Academy of Art. Her paintings and prints have been exhibited by Susan Eley Fine Art, the Salmagundi Club, Eyes On Art, The Art Cart NYC, The Living Gallery, LIC-Artists, and the New York Academy of Art.
