Great Value

Learn a lifelong skill for the price of a trip to the art supply store

Course overview

Working in a gradual progression from the block in, to a simple value statement and ultimately to the last stage of refinement, Aiden Barker-Hill will guide students through the steps necessary to make a convincing, full color still life. Learn how to visually research the form and create a solid drawing using angles and contour. Create an underpainting with a two tone value statement from which the forms can be developed. Explore how to color block the forms, piece by piece, and establish a range of values in color to create seamless transitions of dimensional forms. And finally, complete the painting adding texture and detail with attention to specificity.
