Class Description:

This class is designed for beginner and intermediate level students, and is a perfect course for individuals who have taken Introduction to Drawing and Painting.

In this class students will learn to accurately draw and paint still lives using a variety of techniques and materials as we progress from under drawing to full color oil painting. Still Life Drawing and Painting will build upon the fundamentals of drawing and painting to refine student skill while expanding creative expression. Through this online course, students will take part in lectures, demonstrations, and be guided in pre-designed and student designed projects using methods such as angular construction, oil transfer, glazing, velatura, working on shellacked ground, and the direct and indirect painting methods. Group discussion and individual support is also deeply embedded in the class structure. The class will be instructed by utilizing various technologies, including Zoom, live virtual demos and real time virtual assistance on student projects, chat and email, among others.

Meet Your Instructor

Adam Cross

Instructor

Adam was born in West Virginia and studied under master artist Naijun Zhang at WVU and throughout China. In 2014 he earned his MFA from the New York Academy of Art and was awarded a residency to study in Giverny, France. Adam is devoted to creating relevant, modern, Christ-inspired works which have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including shows at the United Nations, Flowers Gallery, and Sotheby’s. His artwork has been published in The Wild Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur, and featured in the book, The Figure: Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture. Adam has been awarded numerous private and public commissions including for the Clearing House Headquarters in Manhattan and as lead artist on a multi-year restoration, painting, and sculpture project for Our Lady of Grace Church in Brooklyn. Adam has taught at schools throughout the New York Metro area including Caldwell University and the New York Academy of Art.
